The Berries

Mon, Feb 24, 2014-

The Berry Islands are one of our favorite areas in the Bahamas.  They are largely undiscovered.  We anchored at Devil’s Cay hoping to have the area to ourselves and were surprised to find 4 other boats already there.  It is pristine with no buildings or people other than on boats.  We swam and collected our first shells.  Bob found a beautiful reef just off the beach in shallow water.  The water in this area is very shallow and, even with 2 anchors out, the anchor alarm went off all night, suggesting that we were dragging.  We did not drag, but the location was quite rolly.  In the morning we moved the boat to a deeper spot – 11 feet.  Much better.  We spent the day on projects.  To start we rebuilt the forward toilet.  The second time is much faster.   Bob scanned manuals and we cleaned the forward cabin.  Swam in the afternoon, then had dinner below after a strong squall soaked the cockpit.
