Europe, really!

Yesterday, Doug caught a flight back to the U.S.  We are going to miss Doug and his cooking.  His coq au vin was excellent mid-ocean.  Yum!

We really are in Europe – there is no propane in our foreseeable future.  Europe cooks with butane.  Not a tremendously noticeable difference in cooking, although it does not heat as hot.  Water takes a few more minutes to boil.  The most important thing is that we are able to make coffee.

bIMG_2740We are enjoying Horta.  We have found a small outdoor market for fresh fruits and vegetables from the local islands.  The climate is a combination of southern Europe and northern Africa.  Local produce includes lettuce, tomatoes, oranges, figs, and lots and lots of grapes which produce local wines.  Most of the wine comes from Pico, the next island over.  Their wine is very good and inexpensive.  A glass of house wine (from Pico) in a local café costs one euro, or about $1.40.  Coffee is also very inexpensive and excellent.  Some coffee beans are grown on another Azorean island, but most come from the continent.

Congratulations!! I’m so excited for your having made the passage. Kansas is far behind now. Hope you continue on having the adventures you imagined. You did not miss the winter this year.

Ann and I are enjoying Windscape immensely and have put her in Padanaram for the summer. We love it and may stay there for awhile. We rebuilt the mast and it it is a joy now. More details later.
