Georgetown

Sailed to Georgetown with good following seas.  We did not realize that daylight savings had started so were surprised that everything’s was closed down when we headed to shore on Stocking Island.  GeorgeTown is an adult Disneyland for boaters.  We find that a lot of people sail their boats to GeorgeTown in Nov or Dec, put down the anchor, and stay until March or April.  It is their winter home and they don’t move the boat.  The boating community has developed a tremendous number of regularly scheduled activities, mostly on Stocking Island, about a mile across the harbor from the center of GeorgeTown.  Activities include yoga, Texas Hold’em, AA meetings, beach volleyball, cocktail parties, and more.  A Cruisers’ Net, every morning at 8 am on the VHF radio gives the schedule of activities, announcements from restaurants and stores in the area, announcements of boats arriving and leaving the harbor, and an opportunity for anyone needing to sell or buy used boat parts from another boat to put in a pitch.  There is a real sense of community and, as boaters do, everyone helps everyone else.

While we appreciate the community, we tend to get restless.  Our sense is more of – it’s a boat – move it.  We become anxious to see the next place and explore new horizons.
