Allens Cay

We went to shore at Allens Cay and where the Iguanas came out to greet us on the beach.  They look like small dinosaurs.    Windless, we motored south to Compass Cay.

What a change at Compass Cay!  They have added another two docks and large motor yachts have taken over.  Four years ago there were only one or two power boats there.  This time we were the only sailboat.  We heard that Sampson Cay shut down their marina so those yachts have now moved to Compass Cay.  The island is owned by Tucker Rolles.  Tucker now has his brother, son, grandson and nephew involved in the marina.  They have also added two more houses on the island as rental properties.  The island has a beautiful crescent shaped beach and good walking trails.  The small marina is one of the best storm protection spots in the Bahamas.

The marina still has the personal feel it had before.  Picnic tables on the deck for people to meet at cocktail hour.  The small dock where people can feed the nurse sharks, and the small store that still operates on the honor system.   The office door beside the store has a clipboard with a page for every boat.  When you take something from the store, you find the page with your boat name and write in what you took.  When checking out they tally your list and add it to your slip fees.    Easy for everyone
