Staniel Cay

Tues, March 4, 2014-

Mark and Lauren went into the water at Compass Cay dock for a photo op with the nurse sharks.  They did not swim but did get very close to the sharks.  There were a dozen or so sharks.

No wind again so we motored to Staniel Cay.  After a trip to pig beach to meet and greet the pigs we anchored off the grotto.  We all snorkeled into the cave where, 50 years ago, Sean Connery was filmed in the movie Thunderball.   We had dinner at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.

Wed, March 5-

Mark and Lauren flew out on Flamingo Air from Staniel Cay.  The plane was overbooked so they ended up on the second segment.  Their 8:45 flight took off at 11:30, ah, island time.  They were so much fun we hated to see them leave.

We had planned to take right off but reviewing Chris Parker’s forecast decided to hunker down for the coming front.  For the next two days the boat swung all day in the current, setting off the anchor alarm constantly.   Bob dove on the anchor and found that it had wrapped around a cement block and was not well set.  We reanchored.   While Bob set up all of the dive gear, I polished the stainless steel lifelines and stanchions.
