Passage to Greece

Saturday and Sunday, July 18 – 19, 2015 —

Our first task after leaving Syracuse was to change out all of the water filters for the watermaker (unrelated to the pollution in Siracusa) and clean all the strainers.  After that we were back in business making pure clean water and in less than 24 hours had full tanks.  Cheers.   With little wind and calm seas we motor sailed overnight under a star filled sky–always amazing.

By the middle of the following day the heat was settling in and it was time to cool off.  We cut the engine, and jumped in.  You don’t need to worry about hitting bottom when the water is over 10,000 feet deep! Just 20 minutes and our core temperatures were back to normal.  Dinner on the grill and we were ready for another night at sea.

Our original plan was to head to Corfu, Greece, then start working our way south.  The winds had other plans for us.  Corfu would have us beating to windward.  That is never fun.  Switching to Nisos Levkas, further south gave us a smoother sail and allowed us to get in earlier to anchor in the middle afternoon.  We sailed part of the day, and motor sailed part.
