bbDSC_0864Our niece Lauren and Mark joined us for a day of sightseeing.  We headed off to show them the central market with the vast variety of vegetables, fish and meats.  As an American it is amazing to see all of the body parts laid out on ice for sale.  Nothing is wasted. bbDSC_0871

We visited the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family), the most famous building in Barcelona.   A modernista church designed by Antoni Gaudi, it has been under construction for 130 years, due to be finished about 12 years from now.  The detail is extraordinary.  When completed, it will have 18 spires.  At the very center will be the Jesus tower, rising 560 feet, with a lighted cross that will be visible from out at sea.  Gaudi’s style has few straight lines so the church looks a bit like a cake with the frosting just starting to melt.
